The Peach Pit Co | Winter’s Mare
Mari Lwyd is a Welsh winter tradition involving a decorated horse skull carried from house to house during the Christmas season. Celebrants and the Mari Lwyd knock on doors, singing to the households to gain entry. The two groups then sing back and forth, trading witty banter and clever insults, much like a modern day rap battle. If the household fails to reply or loses the battle, the Mari Lwyd and celebrants enter the home to mischievously bring luck, but not without raiding their food and drinks.
Winter’s Mare, inspired by the Welsh winter tradition of Mari Lwyd, is a smoky grey polish with a slight shifty red undertone.
